GUILLERMO FERNÁNDEZ, 2007 - 2011

I met Guillermo in Guatemala in 1997. He has lived and worked in Valencia, Spain since 2000. Guillermo studied at the art academy for painting in Santiago de Cuba. After his best friend was killed by soldiers of the Batista regime, Guillermo chose exile and left Cuba in 1958. He travelled by sea to Europe and continued his way over land to India. There he enlisted at the art academy, and started his first experiments with painting on and treating leathers. Guillermo has lived and worked since then in Asia, Europe, Africa, South- Central- and North-America. From 2007 to 2011 Guillermo gave me the chance to freely photograph him in his close surroundings. This project resulted in this photo-serie and the book Guillermo Fern´ndez - Magical Jungle.
